Today's Scripture

He starts smaller than we expect.
Can I be honest with you right off the bat? When I first started this series, I wanted to open with something grand. A sweeping statement about the presence of God. Something that would make you feel the weight of thirty days all at once.
But that is not how He works. And honestly? It is not how this series works either.
We live in a world that has trained us to filter out the ordinary. Scroll past it. Chase the highlight. And somewhere in all that scrolling, we started doing the same thing with God. Waiting for the moment that feels big enough to count.
The burning bush. The parted sea. The audible voice.
And in the meantime, the coffee is going cold, the kids need something, and we have half-convinced ourselves that we missed Him today.
The Principle Behind the Verse
Jesus was talking about money when He said this verse, but the principle underneath it is bigger than finances. Faithfulness in the small thing is not a warm-up for the real thing. It is the real thing.
The small moment is where God actually lives. The quiet word of thanks on the way to work. The pause before you respond to the email that irritated you. The time you stopped and actually looked at something beautiful instead of photographing it.
We keep looking up for the spectacular. He keeps showing up in the next five minutes.
This is not a consolation prize. This is the whole game.
Speak This Out Loud
I recognize that God is presenteven now in the small ordinary moments of my life. I will not wait for the spectacular to find Him. I will look for Him in the next five minutes, in this ordinary task, in this unremarkable moment. He is here, and that is enough.
Today's Challenge
Pick one ordinary task today (washing dishes, driving somewhere, folding laundry) and do it as if God is in the room. Not because you need to perform for Him, but because He actually is. Notice what changes. Notice what you notice.
Journal Prompts
- Where have I been looking past the small moments, waiting for something bigger to count as an encounter with God?
- What ordinary moment today might actually be sacred?
- How does my relationship with the spectacular affect my ability to see God in the ordinary?
Reflection Questions
- Where have I been looking past the small moments, waiting for something bigger to count as an encounter with God?
- Am I missing God in the ordinary because I am waiting for the extraordinary?
- What would change if I believed this ordinary moment was exactly where God is?
Today's Prayer
Lord, I confess that I have been a little impatient with ordinary days. I have been waiting for the spectacular when You have been here in the small all along. Help me slow down enough to see it. Help me trust that this, right here, this ordinary Tuesday, this unremarkable morning, is exactly where You are. In Jesus Name, Amen.
Final Word
We keep looking up for the spectacular. He keeps showing up in the next five minutes. The small moment is not a warm-up. It is the main event. Start looking. He is already there.
With honesty and hope,
Claire
