Many people today carry a quiet ache about their bodies.
Not vanity. Not self obsession. But a deep sense of disconnection. A feeling that the body they live in does not align with the self they experience inside.
This tension is real. And it deserves to be spoken about with care.
Scripture does not dismiss it. But it does frame it differently.
The Bible Treats the Body as Meaningful
From the opening pages of Scripture, the body is not treated as incidental.
God forms human beings with intention, and then calls what He has made good.
"God saw all that he had made, and it was very good."
Genesis 1:31This does not mean the body is easy to live in.
It means the body is not a mistake.
Jesus Did Not Come to Help Us Escape Our Bodies
One of the most overlooked truths of Christianity is the incarnation.
God did not rescue humanity by remaining distant or disembodied.
He took on flesh.
"The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us."
John 1:14Jesus honored the body by inhabiting one fully.
He experienced hunger. Fatigue. Pain. Vulnerability.
Redemption did not bypass embodiment. It entered it.
Scripture Does Not Define Identity by Inner Experience Alone
The Bible is honest about internal conflict.
Desire, perception, and self understanding can feel powerful and convincing.
But Scripture does not treat inner experience as the final authority.
It treats God as the author of truth, even when truth feels costly.
"You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies."
1 Corinthians 6:19 to 20This is not about control.
It is about trust.
Discipleship Often Involves Tension We Do Not Resolve Quickly
Following Jesus has never meant immediate harmony between desire and obedience.
Every disciple carries areas of tension. Areas where surrender feels slow, confusing, or painful.
Jesus does not ask us to solve ourselves before coming to Him.
He asks us to stay.
The Gospel Offers Presence Before Resolution
Jesus does not rush people toward transformation.
He walks with them through it.
This matters deeply in conversations about identity and embodiment.
The Church is not called to force outcomes. It is called to remain faithful, patient, and truthful while God does the work of formation.
Hope Is Not Found in Escape
Christian hope does not point us away from the body.
It points toward resurrection.
"He will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body."
Philippians 3:21This is not rejection of the body.
It is redemption of it.
Stay With This
If you carry tension about your body, you are not disqualified from Jesus.
You are invited into relationship, truth, and a long obedience shaped by grace.
Your body is not a mistake Jesus needs you to escape.
It is part of the story He is redeeming.
Father, thank you that my body is not a mistake. Thank you that you call what you made good. Help me to honor you with this body you have given me, even when I carry tension about it. Give me patience to walk the long obedience shaped by grace, knowing that you are redeeming the whole story.
In Jesus Name, Amen.
With honesty and hope,
Claire
