When Your Body Fails You: Faith in the Hardest Seasons

7 min read

Chronic illness, pain, disability. These are things the church does not like to talk about, but God has not left you. He is right there with you.

You woke up again in pain. The kind of pain that makes you wonder how you are supposed to get through another day. You look at people around you who seem to move through life effortlessly, and you feel like you are carrying a weight no one else can see.

And church does not help. Everyone talks about healing like it is a promise that God will fix you if you have enough faith. So when you pray and nothing changes, you start to wonder if it is your fault. If you are doing something wrong. If God is somehow disappointed in you.

That is not true. And I need you to hear that today.

God Does Not Only Work Through Healing

We have made healing the measuring stick of faith. If you get better, it means God is happy with you. If you do not, it means something is wrong. But that is not what Scripture shows us.

"But He said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me."

2 Corinthians 12:9

Paul asked God three times to take away his "thorn in the flesh." And God said no. Not because Paul lacked faith, but because God's power was made perfect in that very weakness.

The Faith That Persists

You are not failing at faith because you are still sick. You are not lacking something because your body has not healed. Faith is not the same thing as healing. Faith is trusting God even when He does not take it away.

Your faith is not in a God who will fix your body. Your faith is in a God who walks through the fire with you. And He is doing that right now, even when you cannot feel it.

You are not less of a Christian because your body is weak. You are not less seen by God because you are in pain. He is not waiting for you to be better to love you. He loves you right now, exactly as you are.

For the Ones Who Are Tired

I know you are tired. I know it is hard to keep going when every day brings the same struggle. I know people do not understand, and church sometimes makes it worse with their talk about faith and healing like it is a formula.

You do not have to pretend. You do not have to have it all together. You can be honest about how hard this is and still trust God. That is not contradiction. That is real faith.

Keep going. Even when it feels like nothing is changing. Even when people around you do not get it. Even when you wonder if anyone sees.

God sees. And He has not left you.

✦ A Moment to Sit With

Bring Your Weariness to Him

If you are exhausted from fighting, from hoping, from pretending, bring that honestly to God today. He can handle your tiredness. He is not disappointed in you. You are not failing at faith because your body has not healed.

✦ ✦ ✦

Father, I bring my weary body and my tired spirit to You. Thank You for walking through this fire with me. Help me to trust You even when healing does not come. In Jesus Name, Amen.

With honesty and hope,
Claire
