The world feels unstable right now.
Wars break out and expand. Alliances shift. Power struggles play out on a global stage, and the consequences fall heavily on ordinary people.
It is hard not to feel shaken when nations rage.
But Scripture speaks into moments like these with surprising steadiness.
The Bible Never Pretended Nations Would Be Peaceful
From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible is honest about human power and conflict.
Nations rise. Empires fall. Leaders grasp for control. Violence leaves scars that last generations.
None of this surprises God.
"Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain?"
Psalm 2:1This is not a question of confusion. It is a statement of perspective.
God Is Not Anxious About the State of the World
When the world feels chaotic, it is easy to imagine God reacts the way we do.
Concerned. Alarmed. Rushing to regain control.
But Scripture consistently presents a different picture.
God remains seated. Steady. Unmoved by the noise of power struggles.
"The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord scoffs at them."
Psalm 2:4This is not mockery of suffering. It is a declaration that human power is never ultimate.
Our Allegiance Was Never Meant to Be Divided
In times of war, allegiance becomes complicated.
We feel pressure to choose sides. To defend positions. To place our hope in outcomes that promise security.
But Scripture is clear about where the people of God belong.
"Our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there."
Philippians 3:20This does not make us indifferent to suffering. It anchors us when loyalty is tested.
Jesus Refused Earthly Power for a Reason
Jesus stood before political authority and refused to claim power the world recognized.
He did not deny kingship. He redefined it.
"My kingdom is not of this world."
John 18:36Jesus understood something we forget.
Earthly power can never bring lasting peace. It can restrain violence for a time, but it cannot heal the human heart.
The Kingdom of God Advances Differently
The Kingdom of God does not advance through domination or force.
It advances through faithfulness. Through sacrificial love. Through people who refuse to let hatred have the final word.
This does not ignore injustice. It confronts it from a different place.
The people of God are called to be steady witnesses in unsteady times.
Try This Today
Where have global events stirred fear or anger in you? Ask God to show you where your hope has been leaning, and gently reanchor your heart in His Kingdom.
Nations may rage.
But God remains unmoved.
And His Kingdom is still advancing.
Father, when the news feels overwhelming and nations rage, help me to remember that You are still seated on the throne. You are not anxious or alarmed. You are steady when I am shaken. Anchor my heart in Your Kingdom and remind me that my citizenship is in heaven. Give me the grace to be a steady witness in unsteady times. In Jesus Name, Amen.
With honesty and hope,
Claire
