There is a quiet belief many of us carry without realizing it.
We believe that God is good, but reserved. Loving, but measured. Present, but careful with how much of Himself He gives.
We do not usually say this out loud. It shows up instead in how we pray, how we wait, and how easily we assume distance when heaven feels silent.
But Jesus revealed something very different about the Father.
Jesus Never Portrayed the Father as Reluctant
When Jesus spoke about God, He did not describe someone who needed convincing.
He spoke about a Father who already knows what His children need. A Father who sees. A Father who responds.
"If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him."
Matthew 7:11Jesus was not trying to persuade people to believe God was kind. He assumed it, and invited them to trust it.
We Often Mistake Silence for Distance
There are seasons when God feels quiet.
Prayers feel unanswered. Direction feels slow. Assurance feels harder to reach.
In those moments, it is easy to assume the Father has stepped back.
But Scripture consistently shows us that silence is not absence. Waiting is not rejection. And delay is not denial.
The Father is not withholding Himself. He is often forming trust.
The Father's Heart Is Revealed in the Son
If we ever wonder what the Father is like, Jesus made it simple.
Look at Him.
Jesus welcomed interruption. He noticed overlooked people. He moved toward weakness instead of away from it.
This was not a softer side of God. This was God.
"Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father."
John 14:9The Father revealed Himself through approachability, not distance.
Intimacy Begins When We Stop Holding Back
Often the distance we feel is not because the Father is withholding, but because we are guarded.
We edit our prayers. We manage our emotions. We bring our best words instead of our honest ones.
But intimacy with the Father grows where trust replaces performance.
Children do not calculate how much access they have. They come because they belong.
The Invitation Is Still Open
The Father is not waiting for you to say the right thing.
He is not measuring how well you approach Him.
He is already leaning toward you.
"Come near to God and he will come near to you."
James 4:8Rest Here
Where have you assumed distance from the Father. Where have you held back because you were unsure of His response.
What would it look like to come to Him today without guarding your heart.
The Father is not withholding Himself.
He never was.
Father, forgive me for the times I have assumed You were holding back when You were actually reaching out. Help me to trust that You are already leaning toward me, not waiting for me to earn Your attention. Teach me to come to You without guarding my heart, knowing that You are not measuring how well I approach You. In Jesus Name, Amen.
With honesty and hope,
Claire
