When the Lights Are On
and the Noise Is Loud

Things that were once hidden are being exposed. The Church is not exempt. But what if this moment is not a disaster, what if it is a cleansing?

"Everything exposed by the light becomes visible, and everything that is illuminated becomes a light."

Ephesians 5:13-14

We live in a noisy age. News cycles that never rest. Controversies that seem to multiply overnight. Voices speaking from every direction, some with authority, some with fear, some with both. And if you are paying any attention at all to the world around you, it can feel overwhelming. Even inside the Church, things are shifting. Things are being exposed. Leaders. Movements. Hidden rooms that were not supposed to be opened.

It can shake us. It is supposed to.

"For the time has come for judgment to begin at the household of God."

1 Peter 4:17

This is not the end of the story. This is the beginning of a purification. God is not surprised by what is being uncovered. He is the one holding the light.

What Exposure Actually Means

When Paul wrote to the Ephesians about things being exposed by the light, he was not writing as a man afraid of what might be found. He was writing as someone who understood the mercy of being seen. Light does not destroy. Light reveals, so that what is hidden can be healed, corrected, or removed.

This is how God works in our own hearts too. He does not shine His light to condemn. He shines His light because He loves us too much to let us keep walking in the dark.

The Church is not above this process. If anything, the household of God is where it begins. And if we receive this season with humility rather than defensiveness, it has the power to produce something beautiful: a Church that looks more like Jesus.

A Time for Deep Roots

But here is what I want to speak into your personal walk right now: you were never called to live in a state of constant alarm.

Kingdom people do not panic. Kingdom people abide.

"He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty."

Psalm 91:1

In seasons of exposure, noise and turbulence, the most Kingdom thing you can do is not scroll further or argue louder. It is to go deeper with God. To tend the roots. To spend more time in His presence, not less. To let the instability around you drive you into greater stability in Him.

This is actually a gift, if we receive it that way. Crisis has a remarkable ability to show us what we were actually standing on. And if we find that some of what we built our confidence on was a leader, a movement, or an institution rather than God Himself: this is a holy invitation to rebuild on the only foundation that cannot be shaken.

"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock."

Matthew 7:24-25

How to Stay Anchored Right Now

Here are three practical anchors for navigating this season with peace instead of panic:

1. Return to the Word, not opinions about the Word

In noisy seasons, our primary source of truth must be Scripture itself. Not commentary, not hot takes, not even well-meaning podcasts. Sit with the actual text. Let the Holy Spirit be your teacher. Ask Him to show you what is true.

2. Protect your peace: it is not passive

Paul tells us in Philippians 4 to let the peace of God guard our hearts and minds. Notice it says guard: that is an active, military word. Your peace is worth protecting. That may mean limiting certain inputs, taking news fasts, or being selective about which conversations you enter.

"And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

Philippians 4:7

3. Keep your eyes on Jesus, not on the storm

Peter walked on water right up until the moment he looked at the waves. The storm did not sink him: his gaze did. We have the same choice in every turbulent season. We can fix our eyes on what is falling apart, or we can fix them on the One who is still completely sovereign.

"Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith."

Hebrews 12:2

✦ A Moment to Sit With

Take a Few Quiet Minutes

What are You refining in me during this season, Lord? Is there anything I have been building my confidence on other than You? Where have I let the noise of the world crowd out the sound of Your voice?

Father, keep my eyes fixed on You. In a season where so much is being shaken, be my unshakeable foundation. Purify my heart, refine my faith, and anchor my soul deeply in Your Word. Teach me to abide rather than react, to be still and know that You are God, even when everything around me is loud. Holy Spirit, lead me through this season with wisdom, with peace, and with eyes wide open to what You are doing. In Jesus Name, Amen.

Friend, the lights being on is not something to fear. God is a good Father, and good fathers clean their houses. Let Him do the work, in the Church, and in you. Stay close. Stay rooted. Stay anchored.

He has got this. And He has got you.

With honesty and hope,
Claire
