The way we treat the people closest to us is the truest measure of how deeply the Kingdom has taken root in our hearts. It is relatively easy to be patient with strangers and gracious with acquaintances. The real test of Kingdom living is the dinner table, the bedroom, the family group chat.
Home is where the Kingdom either gets lived out or gets left at the door. And the good news is that it is precisely in the messiness of family life, the misunderstandings, the disappointments, the beautiful ordinary moments, that the Kingdom has the most transformative power.
"As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord."
Joshua 24:15Joshua is declaration was not about perfection. It was about intention. A household that serves the Lord is not a household without conflict. It is a household where God is the center, where love is the language, and where forgiveness is available in abundance.
Kingdom Rhythms in the Home
Kingdom homes are not built in grand gestures. They are built in small, repeated choices. The choice to apologize quickly. The choice to put down the phone and be fully present. The choice to pray together, even briefly, even imperfectly. The choice to speak words of life to your children, your spouse, your parents, words that call out who they are becoming rather than only responding to who they have been.
Practical Ways to Bring the Kingdom Home
Pray together, even two minutes at the dinner table, at bedtime, in the car. It creates a spiritual atmosphere in your home. It declares that God is welcome here, that this family acknowledges their dependence on Him. Start small. Start today.
Make it a practice to speak blessing over the people in your home. Not just have a good day but I see the gift of leadership in you or God has something remarkable planned for your life. Words of blessing are seeds that grow for decades.
Kingdom homes are safe places, where questions are welcome, where struggles can be named without shame, where people feel known and loved rather than managed and performed for. Create the conditions for that kind of honesty, and watch the Kingdom grow in your family.
One Thing You Can Do at Home Today
Think of one person in your household, or one person in your family you will speak to today. Ask the Holy Spirit: What does this person need from me today that would bring a little more of Your Kingdom into their life? Then do that one thing. The Kingdom advances one faithful act at a time.
You do not have to create a perfect Christian home. You just have to keep showing up, with love, with prayer, with intentionality, and with the grace to begin again when you fall short. The Kingdom is patient, and so is the King who is building it through you.
Jesus, help me to bring Your Kingdom into my home. Teach me to love the people closest to me with patience, grace, and unconditional love. Give me the words to speak blessing over them. Create in our home a space where You are central and where everyone feels known and loved. In Jesus Name, Amen.
With honesty and hope,
Claire
