Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.
Galatians 6:2 (NIV)Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.
Galatians 6:10 (NIV)The Role of Community
God designed us to need each other. We are not meant to heal alone. The body of Christ is designed to help carry burdens. We need others, and others need us.
Sometimes healing happens in isolation. But lasting healing often happens in community. In relationship. In being known and loved despite our wounds.
Others can see what we cannot. Others can speak truth when we believe lies. Others can carry us when we cannot carry ourselves. This is the family of God.
Why We Isolate
We isolate because it is safer. If no one knows our wounds, no one can hurt us. But this is a trap. Isolation feeds the wound. Community heals it.
We isolate because we are ashamed. We think our wounds make us unlikeable. But everyone is wounded. Your honesty helps others feel safe to share theirs.
Finding Your People
Find people who will walk with you. People who will speak truth in love. People who will hold you accountable. People who will celebrate your wins and mourn your losses.
Not everyone is safe. But some are. Look for them. Pursue them. Let them in.
Reach Out
Choose one person who is safe. Share your healing journey with them. Ask them to walk with you. You do not have to do this alone.
- Who are the safe people in my life?
- Why have I been isolating?
- How can I let others in?
- How has community helped my healing?
- What stops me from reaching out?
- What would I tell someone who is alone?
Father, help me find my people. I do not want to heal alone. Connect me with those who will walk with me. Use them to heal me. Use me to heal them. In Jesus Name, Amen.
You are not meant to heal alone. Find your people. Let them in. Let them help. We heal together. This is the body of Christ.
With honesty and hope,
Claire
