Day Five · Ghosts in the Family Tree

The Healing That Comes

What it looks like to be free. To inherit blessing instead of curse. To break the chain.

30+ min Scripture · Teaching · Prayer
Today's Scripture

"I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob." He is not the God of the dead, but of the living.

Matthew 22:32 (NIV)
Also Read

Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: "Cursed is everyone who is hung on a pole." He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit.

Galatians 3:13-14 (NIV)

What Healing Looks Like

We have made it to the final day. Over the past five days, we have talked about what runs in the family, what Scripture says, the science of trauma, and how to break the cycle. Today, I want to talk about what is on the other side. What healing looks like. What freedom looks like.

From Curse to Blessing

God does not just free us from sin. He gives us inheritance. He makes us heirs. He blesses us.

The opposite of a curse is a blessing. And that is what God offers. Not just freedom from the past, but a new future. A new identity. A new family. A new inheritance.

Grafted into God's Family

You are not just free from your family tree. You are grafted into another family. The family of God. And that family comes with blessing.

The Presence of Something Else

Healing is not the absence of pain. It is the presence of something else. It is learning to live differently. To respond differently. To be different.

Healing looks like being able to talk about your family without being triggered. It looks like being able to set boundaries without guilt. It looks like being able to parent differently than you were parented.

Healing looks like freedom. Not perfect freedom. Not freedom from all struggle. But freedom from the prison of repetition. Freedom to choose a different path.

Your Inheritance in Christ

Here is what you inherit when you are in Christ. Not a family tree of curses, but a family of blessing.

You inherit the promises of God. You inherit the Holy Spirit. You inherit the church. You inherit eternal life. You inherit all of God's promises to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and more.

That is your inheritance. Not the patterns of the past. Not the wounds of your ancestors. The promises of God.

I am grafted into the family of God. My inheritance is blessing, not curse.

Imagine Freedom

What would be different if you were free? Take a moment to imagine what your life could look like if the cycle was broken. Write down what healing looks like for you specifically.

  • What would healing look like for me?
  • What is my inheritance in Christ?
  • What would it mean to parent differently?
  • How am I changing the trajectory of my family tree?
  • Am I still living in the prison of repetition?
  • Can I see myself as grafted into God's family?
  • What promises of God are mine?
  • Am I ready to break the chain for my children?

Lord, thank You for making me an heir. I am not defined by my family tree. I am grafted into Your family. I inherit Your promises. I receive Your blessing. Help me live in that freedom. Break the chain in me. Change the trajectory of my family tree forever. Use me to help others break theirs. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Ghosts are not real. They cannot control you. They cannot determine your future. When you break the cycle, you are not just freeing yourself. You are freeing your children. And their children. You are changing the trajectory of your family tree forever.

With honesty and hope, Claire
