A Daily Spiritual Practice
The Kingdom Examen
5 minutes with God, reviewing your day with gratitude, honesty, and hope.
5:00
How did today feel?
Be honest, there are no wrong answers here.
I
Become Aware of God's Presence
Take a breath. Before reviewing your day, simply acknowledge that you are not alone. God is here, in this moment, with you.
"Be still, and know that I am God.", Take 30 seconds. Just breathe. Let yourself arrive.
✦ Psalm 46:10, "Be still, and know that I am God."

II
Review the Day with Gratitude
Walk back through today, slowly, without judgment. Look for the gifts: a conversation, a moment of beauty, a kindness given or received.
What was a gift today, big or small? What made you feel alive, seen, or provided for?
✦ 1 Thessalonians 5:18, "Give thanks in all circumstances."
· · ·
III
Pay Attention to Your Emotions
Where did you feel close to God today? Where did you feel distant? Your emotions are not random: they are often the voice of your soul trying to speak.
Where did you feel most alive and connected today? Where did you feel the distance, from God, from yourself, from others?
✦ Psalm 139:23, "Search me, God, and know my heart."
· · ·
IV
Receive Grace
This is not performance. This is not punishment. This is simply bringing the real you, including the parts you're not proud of, to a God who already knows and already loves.
Is there anything from today you'd like to hand to God, something you need forgiveness for, or help with, or simply can't carry anymore?
✦ 1 John 1:9, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us."
· · ·
V
Look Toward Tomorrow
You don't need a plan. You need one small faithful step. What is one thing you want to carry into tomorrow, one intention, one open hand, one prayer?
What is one small, faithful thing you want to do tomorrow, one way you want to walk closer with God?
✦ Proverbs 3:6, "In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight."
