For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
Ephesians 2:10Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
Matthew 5:16Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.
Matthew 28:19-20One of the greatest questions every human being asks is: "What is my purpose?" We search for it in careers, in relationships, in ministry, in service. We read books about finding our purpose. We attend conferences about discovering our calling. We spend years trying to figure out what we were created for.
But what if your purpose isn't something you have to find? What if it's something you have already been given? What if the Bride of Christ doesn't need to search for her purpose because her purpose is already defined by her relationship with her Bridegroom?
The purpose of a bride is not to find her own identity. Her purpose is to reflect the glory of her husband. The purpose of a bride is not to build her own kingdom. Her purpose is to advance the kingdom of her husband. The purpose of a bride is not to make a name for herself. Her purpose is to make known the name of her husband.
This is exactly your purpose as the Bride of Christ. You were created for good works that God prepared beforehand for you to walk in. You were created to let your light shine so that others may see your good works and give glory to your Father. You were created to go and make disciples, teaching them to obey everything Jesus commanded.
Your purpose is not something mysterious or hidden. It's not something you have to discover through personality tests or spiritual gifts assessments. Your purpose is simply to be the Bride of Christ. To love Him. To know Him. To reflect His glory. To advance His kingdom. To make Him known.
Live From Your Identity
Today, instead of asking "What is my purpose?" ask "How can I be the Bride of Christ right here, right now?" Whatever you're doing - work, family, ministry, rest - do it as the Bride of Christ. Let your identity as His Bride shape your actions, your attitudes, your words. Notice how this changes your approach to everything you do.
- Where have you been searching for your purpose instead of living from your identity as the Bride of Christ?
- What would change in your daily life if you truly understood that your purpose is simply to be the Bride of Christ?
- How can you reflect the glory of Jesus in your current circumstances?
- What does it look like to advance God's kingdom in your everyday life?
- What is the difference between finding your purpose and living from your identity?
- How does knowing you are the Bride of Christ change your understanding of purpose?
- Can you live purposefully without having to figure out the "perfect" plan for your life?
Jesus, my Bridegroom, thank You for giving me purpose. Thank You for not leaving me to search for meaning, but for giving me meaning through my relationship with You. I confess that I have sometimes tried to find my purpose in what I do instead of who I am to You. Forgive me for making purpose complicated when it's actually simple. Today I choose to live from my identity as Your Bride. Help me to reflect Your glory in everything I do. Help me to advance Your kingdom wherever I go. Help me to make You known in every interaction. Let my life be a reflection of my love for You. In Your purposeful name, Amen.
Your purpose is not something you have to find. It's someone you get to love. As the Bride of Christ, everything flows from this identity.
With honesty and hope, Claire
